Why Bathroom Inspections are So Strict
When moving out of a rental property in Townsville, the bathroom is arguably the number one failure point during final inspections. Property managers will closely inspect shower screens for mineral build-up and run their fingers along tiles to check for hidden mould.
Because of our tropical North Queensland climate, soap residue, body oils, and hard water minerals chemically bond together rapidly, creating a cloudy film that standard supermarket sprays can't touch. If left unaddressed, this film can cause permanent etching on glass.
1. Deep Clean Soap Scum Removal
To break down tough calcium carbonate and heavy soap build-up without scratching your delicate glass surfaces, follow this professional strategy:
- The Acid Spray: Mix a 50/50 solution of warm white vinegar and standard dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle. The vinegar breaks the mineral bonds while the soap traps grease.
- Dwell Time is King: Generously spray the screen and allow it to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Never let it fully dry out.
- The Non-Scratch Scrub: Use a non-scratch white scourer pad or a magic eraser to scrub in slow circular motions. Avoid steel wool, which permanently ruins glass.
- The Squeegee Polish: Rinse thoroughly with warm water and immediately use a rubber window squeegee to strip moisture away, leaving a streak-free shine.
2. Eliminating Stubborn Mould from Grout Lines
Mould isn't just a surface stain—it is a live fungus that digs roots deep into porous cement grout lines. Eliminating it entirely requires deep chemical penetration:
- Targeted Bleach Gel Application: For vertical walls, liquid sprays run off too quickly. Mix a paste of baking soda and liquid bleach, or use a commercial commercial-grade mould gel directly over the black spots.
- Let it Work: Give the solution at least 30 minutes to bleach and kill the microscopic fungal spores at their root level.
- Detail Brushing: Scrub firmly along the structural grout recesses using a stiff-bristled grout brush or an old toothbrush.
- Preventative Seal: Rinse the residue down with cold water. *Pro-Tip:* Wipe the tracks down with a light layer of tea tree oil to naturally repel upcoming spore infestations.
